Wednesday Addams lives again – in live action!

“Wednesday” TV series announced on Netflix, with Tim Burton attached to direct.

It was very witty that, last Wednesday (February 17), Netflix announced the making of a new TV show based on The Addams Family. But, that wasn’t the only witty thing they had on their sleeves – the project comes with no other than Tim Burton attached to direct.

“Wednesday”, which will focus on this beloved character, was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar and was in development back in October 2020, when Burton was still in negotiations.

This seems like a match made in heaven – or the purgatory, as the Addams tradition would put it. Burton has always been flirting with the possibility and his gothic and macabre universe could easily be a place inspired by Charles Addams’s creations. It will be the return of Burton to the small screen, where he directed a few episodes of shows like Hitchcock Presents.

The plot is described as “a young adult TV series described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. She attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Producers include Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman.
